"George Genna has spent much of his musical career as an accompanist and musical
director to top acts, including Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Jerry Lewis, and many
others. However, on this trio date, the show-biz elements are absent in favor of Bill
Evans-type harmonies and improvising. Genna contributed four originals, but it is his
interpretations of six standards that are most intriguing. His rendition of "Moon
River" is pretty unrecognizable, and he radically reharmonizes "Days of Wine and
Roses." In contrast, Genna also performs a straightforward version of "It Could
Happen to You," a thoughtful "Deep in a Dream," and the Beatles' "With a Little Help
from My Friends" in 6/4 time. His close interplay with bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and
drummer Bill Jones gives this trio its own sound, and the playing is full of creative
invention in the spirit of Bill Evans and Paul Bley. Recommended."

"...A piano trio outing that rises above the pack via top level musicianship on a
set of creative covers of familiar tunes alongside Genna's distinctive originals."

"...This trio should receive world wide exposure. It is one of the best
new groups I've had the pleasure of hearing in years. Genna has his
jazz roots in the classic Bill Evans tradition, stretching and expanding it
with his own unique voice. The writing and playing in this CD is "cutting
edge, state of the art" jazz. George Genna has put together, with Gary
Mazzaroppi and Billy Jones, a musical listening experience that can not
only be heard, but felt."
